A Message from the Dean
Welcome to General Education Students
The general education faculty, staff and I want you know to that we are delighted you have chosen Carolinas College of Health Sciences for your education.

Our faculty members are dedicated to helping you succeed. Please do not hesitate to go to your instructors as soon as possible when you realize that you could use some extra help. I hope that your time at our college will be enjoyable and productive. Please feel free to drop by and introduce yourself to me. Getting to know students is one of the best things about my job.

Program Overview
General Education courses, sometimes referred to as liberal arts courses, are designed to give students a broader understanding of the world.

At Carolinas College of Health Sciences, both degree and diploma students take a core of general education classes. A student does not have to be enrolled in a healthcare program, however, in order to take general education classes at Carolinas College of Health Sciences.

At Carolinas College of Health Sciences, students take general education to:

  • Earn credit toward their healthcare program at Carolinas College of Health Sciences
  • Earn credit which will transfer to another college or university
  • Meet personal educational objectives

The CCHS General Education curriculum is unique in many ways, but one distinction is that General Education courses emphasize particular goals, objectives and outcomes. Specific courses articulate their own objectives, but all CCHS General Education courses emphasize at least one of the following learning goals:

After completing General Education Courses at Carolinas College of Health Sciences, students will demonstrate the ability to:

  • communicate effectively, either in written or oral format.
  • understand the fundamental concepts, methods and applications of the natural and life Sciences and their impact on human experience.
  • examine and understand human behavior in different theoretical, societal, cultural and/or institutional contexts
  • think critically, apply abstract concepts, and draw conclusions from course concepts

Courses
Typically, a general education class can be categorized as one of the following: humanities and fine arts, social/behavioral sciences or life/natural sciences. Other general education classes might include mathematics or composition.

The following courses constitute the general education courses and available electives followed by a listing of special topics courses. Special topics courses are offered to cover emerging issues or specialized content not represented in the main curriculum that may include health service courses, geared to provide a basic exposure to skills and concepts useful to the training of health care professionals, or courses that are interdisciplinary in nature.

Not every course is offered every semester, therefore, students should refer to the current Registration Bulletin to determine course availability.

Prerequisites
Several classses have prerequisites. Check the catalog for more information.

  • You must be a high school graduate or have earned a GED or adult completion certificate
  • Be a high school senior with a "B" or better average
